Meet Lony Maya Neubauer, a passionate artist with a unique journey. Originally hailing from the picturesque Island of Föhr in the northern part of Germany, Lony's adventurous spirit led her across the ocean to the sunny shores of California.

Her journey in the United States has seen her call both Northern and Southern California home. Today, Lony resides in Vallejo, a charming waterfront community just a short drive from the vibrant city of San Francisco.

Lony's artistic journey with clay began in her junior high school years, igniting a deep-seated passion that only grew stronger with time. This unwavering love for the visual arts inspired her to embark on a ceramics class in Walnut Creek, California, back in January 2018.

In October of the same year, Lony found her artistic haven at the Mare Island Art Studios, previously known as the Coal Shed Art Studio, situated on the historic Mare Island. She takes pride in being part of a talented community of 18 resident artists, a diverse group spanning painters, ceramists, sculptors, metalworkers, woodworkers, printmakers, photographers, textile artists, and creators of various other mediums. Together, they offer support and camaraderie for fellow artists while regularly showcasing their creations at the Mare Island Art Studios' gallery.

Lony's artistic journey is a testament to her dedication to the craft, and her presence is a valuable addition to this vibrant creative community.

Artist Statement

I see myself as a studio ceramist specializing in crafting functional, wheel-thrown, and hand-built ceramics. My primary medium is porcelain, though I occasionally dabble in the world of darker clay bodies. I take immense pleasure in crafting exclusive batches of pieces that radiate with the quintessential charm of mid-century modern and retro aesthetics, along with a hint of abstract design, perfect for adorning both homes and dining room tables.

As an artist, I love to delve into the exploration of forms and decor. My signature touch involves a vivid interplay of colors, often achieved by forgoing the final glaze to create a striking contrast between the exterior and the glazed interior of my pieces. To add that extra layer of personality, I frequently embellish my ceramics with a palette of vibrant underglazes, intricate designs, and sometimes, intricately carved recurring patterns.

The heart of my artistry lies in the connection I establish between my ceramic works and the discerning collectors who appreciate them. There's a moment in my creative journey when I feel that a vessel has reached its true potential, envisioning it as an integral part of a table setting or a captivating decor piece for a mantel. This moment, marked by a timeless and fulfilling creative satisfaction, is what drives my passion for ceramics. This moment is timeless, forever etched in the essence of my creativity, and immensely satisfying.

All of my vibrant creations are born from a deep-seated passion. I believe that art should be a source of joy not just for me but also for those who welcome my pieces into their homes. It's my aspiration that my ceramics not only radiate happiness but also possess a unique quality. I want each collector to feel that they own something truly special, a piece of art that is one-of-a-kind and incomparably delightful.
